With the warm New England days upon us, heading to the beach is a favorite pastime for many people. With that said, we just love the unique possibilities this season opens for the Christmas season! So, without further ado, here is round two of DIY beach-themed ornaments that are sure to put a smile on anyone’s face during the holiday season.

Items to gather on the beach:

  • Driftwood – the smaller the piece, the better. You’ll need several depending on the amount of ornaments you intend to create. While the result is yours, this DIY calls for three small pieces.
  • Various beach items that you can successfully drill a hole into. For example, seashells, sand dollars, and starfish all make excellent choices. Remember to please be mindful of what you take – ensuring that items are truly abandoned before removing them from their habitat is imperative when searching the beach sands.

Things you’ll need to purchase (or may have hanging around):

  • Twine or beach colored rope
  • Hot Glue
  • Sharpie Markers in various colors

Once you have a good stock of items gathered, it’s time to get to work. Start with a pen and paper and create a list of words that remind you of the beach. This list can be obvious choices such as sun, sand, beach, etc., or more creative elements like your favorite place – Hampton Beach, of course!

When your list is complete, grab small pieces of driftwood and write one word on each piece of wood. If you want to take things to the next level, consider painting the wood in many colors before writing the word.

While the paint dries, begin drilling holes into your sea objects. The hole should be towards the top of the object as it will hang from the bottom of the ornament.

After this step is complete, create groups of three with the driftwood. With your twine or rope, insert your found object. Carefully tie a knot to create a loop in the twine. Depending on the object, you may want to use hot glue to secure the knot onto the object. For instance, if you’re using a seashell, tie your twine and place the knot into the underside of the shell. Add a dab of hot glue to secure the rope.

Once this step is complete, grab your driftwood and glue them onto the upper portion of the twine. Mix up the colors (if you painted) and words – this is your time to get creative! Secure the driftwood with hot glue, and your done! The result is a cute little DIY Christmas ornament that can hang from the tree or around the house!
